Hello everyone:
The Arizona Region has participated in the WSZF (western states zonal forum) wszf.org since the zone formed in 1991. Originally as a sharing of information between regional service bodies it has become much more. The WSZF has developed into a place to share challenges and solutions; resource for regions and their groups; provides IT (information technology) resources and BMLT/YAP services and a place to interact with the WB (world board)/NAWS.
In 2015 a Workgroup was established to develop a vision and mission statement. In the years following, the ongoing development of guidelines and a regular facilitator along with a co-facilitator to keep consistent mediation and conscious of the 13 regions has solidified the zone as a non-decision maker in the service system that incorporates Groups – Areas – Regions – WSC.
At the 2018 WSC (world service conference) it was agreed for all 15 zones from around the world would meet to gain an understanding of what a zone really is. With so many variations of sharing and service each zone serves their member regions in their own way.
Out of those meetings a Collaboration of US Zones (usa-na.org) started meeting quarterly. The 8 US Zones further saw an opportunity to provide Public Relations needs on a United States national level. There are organizations and the federal government departments that are willing to talk to NA services that represent NA for the entire United States. In January 2024, two members were elected to facilitate and secretary the Collaboration of US Zones Group, and there are two more positions open, Communication and IT (information technology). At this body there’s a website to jump to anyone’s location of interest either geographically or for information.
In essence, the ongoing evolution of the Narcotics Anonymous service structure keeps growing in different ways and for the needs of its Groups. The Group is the decision-maker of all service efforts. You are encouraged to participate thru your group conscience in all decisions on how we provide service; interact with other organizations; revise NA literature and develop material.
